Try thinking in terms of rhythm rather than melody / leads etc. It's up to the bass player to lock with the drums and lay the foundations - don't try to compete with the guitar line, compliment it.

I use a Bad Monkey and reckon it sounds brilliant. Tried a SD1 as well as a Marshall Jackhammer but wasn't so fussed on the sounds they produced. Never had a dedicated bass model.

Much as I'd love a new guitar, I just don't have the budget right now. that probably excludes the L R Baggs as well - their stuff is pretty expensive. I'll try the EQ pedal for now.
