You don't actually really have to get a higher mount. instead, you could cut the springs shorter. I have done it a few times with no problems at all.

My problem with this is that there is SO much...

My problem with this is that there is SO much decoration going on that no one piece of it can stand out. An observer will not get the impact of the custom knobs and tuners, or the engraved pickup...

you should make sure that the laminates you are planning on the neck are vertical, not horizontal (as in, perpendicular to the fretboard). you get much more strength that way.
