Can you try flipping it by using the ad at through reaper and capturing to the RME?
Or maybe try changing the frequency to 16/44k and see...

There were Expresscards Elite and Probook laptops with great specs Win7 sold up to last year where you could add few expansion cards. I did just that. There are few Lenovo models that have that too....

Sometimes you want to mix in with all the effects as that way the mastering engineer can't change your mix too much.

I am usually at about -6 or -8db when not using outboard. When I use outboard with compressor chained in I go at about -4 as the compressor catches peaks in my setup.

I'd go with the cheap M-Audio monitors like Studiophile AV30 (about $100) or Alesis Monitor One Mk II used.

I found the Nick Crow quite decent if not even great as a 6505...
