I agree---I think Mangini's 'look' fits the band too. Really though, I find Mangini's personality quite irritating which wouldn't make a difference if I enjoyed listening to his playing, but I don't....

There's no doubt that the players you mention influenced a lot of players, but they, in turn, were all influenced by others--it's part of a musical evolution that didn't stop in 1973 or whenever....
