I'd go for the DD-series with an external tap tempo switch. DD-5 and upwards have that option IIRC.

I like V30's more for cleans than for driven tones, to be honest, unless we're talking heavy metal. They just sit really well in the mix and you can EQ them pretty well to round them out a bit.

Yes, the Meathead has 6 channels, I believe. Randall has the 667 - in cooperation with Mike Fortin, which is basically the Meathead AFAIK, with 6 channels and 6 voicings.

Agree with the above, and I'm using it in a band myself. Easily gets over a drummer and it amazes everyone that it's only 30 watts.

The EQ is shoddy though, an external EQ is really handy to have...

6 string pickups wouldn't work because they aren't large enough to pick up the vibrations from 7 strings, I think. Could be wrong though, I'm not an expert on the matter.
