Minor Swing - Django Reinhardt, use harmonic minor scale on E7 and you're set. It's one note different than Cmajor/Aminor (G# instead of G).

if you did not play the natural 7th in the same bar then it'd be the harmonic minor scale. Minor scale with major 7th instead of natural 7th.

You can solo with pentatonics in rhythm with backing tracks but can't play a riff to a simple drum track? That's weird. I don't think you can solo in time either.

String gauge has almost nothing to do with speed. SRV used to shred on 13s, so can you. Go to 10s. Difference between 11 and 10 is pretty damn big, let alone 11 and 8 (lol).
