I'd put my money on a harmonizer with a wah and maybe a flanger or a phaser on it.

Did you take it to a tech or just restring yourself? I've been using Elixirs for years and never had a problem with them, hence my question.

I think you should at least try what Cathbard suggested as well. I have less experience with the 18W Marshalls, but the JTM45 is one of my all-time favourite amps.

Okay, didn't know. :-) I got my Lone Star a couple of years back for the equivalent of a thousand GBP, hence my question.

The guitar in question is a special version of the Les Paul Special II, which has a flat top. A B-5 would fit fine and is cheaper IIRC. :)

Could've been a lemon for sure (his has seen quite some stages over the last 5-10 years, though), but it turned me off the amp pretty quickly. I think he could've bought a second one from the money...

Don't they make the lower priced versions anymore? You used to have the B-5 and then the B-50, which was a lot cheaper. Same thing, just made in China vs made in US, I believe.

I agree that in most...

It probably depends on location as well (EU and US, mainly), but I'd always put Mesa higher than Marshall in regards to build quality and reliability. Add that to my preference of Mesa for sound and...

I use Harley Benton (Thomann's brand) strings on a few of my guitars that I don't use as often. If they're fresh, I honestly don't hear a difference with new EB's or Elixirs. They wear off a lot...

I'd go with 10-52 as well if you want to still play in standard tuning. I personally use 11-54 for drop C, but those are far from ideal for standard tuning.

I'd definitely buy used as well. Locking tuners and coil taps are upgrades that you could do later on as well that aren't permanent changes. As long as you keep the original parts, you won't lose...

Great question here.

IIRC, Reverend makes most of their guitars in korina, which is a light wood. I'd guess most of those guitars are fairly light.

An SG would be fairly light also, as mentioned.

I'm thinking bad set-up and/or bad technique also, to be honest. I don't know how hard you press down on the strings, but it shouldn't take force. If it does take force to press them down, your...

I wouldn't want to rely on Bugera for live use personally. I found the Windsor to be lackluster, I'd take a Valveking over it any day. Have you considered Jet City?

A Peavey Classic 30 might be worth looking into as well. Laney does some nice stuff, but I'm not familiar with their pricing in the US. Carvin Belair, maybe.

What's being described isn't normal though. I've never had it happen on any guitar if it wasn't on purpose.

A Marshall DSL would play into your ballpark nicely. There's a nice DSL50 Special Edition with a 1960TV cab on 2dehands.be right now for 850.

There's an Orange AD30 with a nice 212 cab up somewhere...
