I wouldn't recommend effects on pre-recording, CPU usage will be effected. Plus I guess its good to hear it raw and it'll give you a fair idea of what you NEED to add, not what you think is cool...

Seems like you should get second opinions on the spot by a mate with a pretty good ear for music and wont be bias towards any instrument. They would hopefully be able to identify the problems
