It looks a lot bigger than it is because you're probably expecting a bunch of 10" speakers, but they're all 5" speakers. The biggest one weighs about 170 pounds, almost as much as my entire stack.

The cab is at 4 ohms, however, so the amp can output 1100 watts. Just make sure that he doesn't turn it up past 3/4 of the way and he'll be fine. He probably will never turn it up past halfway anyway.

For just mounting the head, you want a rack case - that's what's shown in the picture. The one in the picture is an SKB or an SKB clone. A used 4-space SKB will probably run about $70, and $130 new....
