Touchy volume pot

The volume pot on my Axis Super Sport is irritatingly touchy.
When I roll back from 10 to 9, there is a very large drop in gain.
I like to ride the volume pot for gigs but I've been finding it tricky...

I'm not sure, but I get much better headphone results by simply playing into a computer using guitar rig or various other guitar packages. In fact my needs for an amp at home are minimal these days...

I'm pretty sure the thickness of the finish is a tonal factor, but not so much the material whether it be nitro, urethane etc.
I just like the way the nitro ages, and the thin coat on the EJ is up...
