I have the Boss CS-3 and have used it ahead (guitar side) of a Tube Screamer. I was looking for compression from it and not sustain. When I tried getting more sustain with it, I didn't get much more...

I always wondered about the faces some make. Jonny Lang often looks like he's in horrible pain. SRV had all sorts of odd expressions. He made noises as he played, too, although quietly.

Email saying I was banned?

I received two emails claiming to be from the Ultimate-Guitar forum, and both said I was banned. The second one went on to say that I had been reinstated, but that I should follow the forum...

Any way to check on a guitar I want to buy?

I'm looking at another Les Paul. The price on it is really good. It's almost too good, which makes me suspicious.

Is there any way to check to find out if it's stolen? I'd hate to shell out $$$ only...

Actually it's a right hand problem. The left has almost perfectly memorized the scale. I don't even have to think about playing it with up or down strokes. Every so often--especially when starting on...

Trouble with a Justinguitar alternate picking exercise

One of Justin Sandercoe's lessons involves alternate-picking the G major pentatonic scale using a metronome. The goal is to get through the scale forward and back four times in a row without error,...

Anyone know the most popular guitar over $1500?

I'm curious if anyone knows the most popular guitar that's priced over $1500. I mention that number because it eliminates the Squiers, Epiphones, etc, and it's just the "real" Fenders, Gibsons,...

I guess. It's just that I spent $1100 on the American Standard and $2000 on the Les Paul. The $650 MIM Strat is the guitar I play the most, in part because it feels the best in my hands. It's not...

I found the seams. They did an excellent job of matching the grains, so there's no abrupt changes.

The grain pattern is too nice for a $650 guitar for it to be real. I would think it's a laminate...

HomerSGR, I guess I'm not understanding what you're saying. Are you saying that the veneer is one piece or two or more? I'm just trying to figure out how the guitar body could be covered with...

Thanks for the replies.

Okay. How is it that the woodgrain patterns of the pieces of veneer all line up perfectly? I can't spot a break in the pattern anywhere.

That I know of. When I restored cars, I'd spend as long as nine months block sanding primer-surfacer before ever applying the final color coat of lacquer. It was the only way to get a mirror finish...

The MIM Strat is the woodgrain finish. I can't find a seam in the finish or a break in the pattern anywhere, so I don't think it's a veneer or a laminate. I think the finish is painted on.

The gloss...

I have a song in my head all the time, whether I want to or not. If it's annoying, it's what psychologists call "ear worms". Songs you can't get out of your head. Try listening to Abba's "Dancing...

30th Anniversary SRV "Main" reproduction guitars being made

I just learned that Jim Hamilton, the luthier who made Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Main" guitar, the one with SRV's name inlaid on the fret board, is making 30th anniversary reproductions.

He made some...

Thanks. The Hamiltone was made by Hamiltone, though, and not by Fender. The real models that are exact replicas of SRV's guitar were made by Jim Hamilton of Hamiltone.
