My Sennheiser HD's are on the way out as well. The headband is already broken from my dad stepping on it. And the jack is wearing out, causing the speakers to cut out frequently.

They're not going to be too good. A good amp will certainly help them, but they're not very versatile pickups. The 81/85's are more suited to high gain.
