Ear training (that way you don't just hit random notes and hope for the best results). Learn other people's solos.

Scales don't make music. You need to be able to use the notes. And that's where you...

The backing track uses a lot of accidentals.

The chords are F#m then G#m then F#m again.

Then at 0:41 it goes like G#m-B-E-A-D-E-D#-C#-B-A#
G#m-B-E-A-D-E-F#m.

I would say the beginning is in F#m,...

Actually, Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly is B-F#m-E and it feels like it's in B major rather than E major. IMO it sounds more like I-v-IV than V-ii-I.

Same with Wicked Game. It's Bm-A-E and sounds more...

Just learn to play on a 11 set. I have never found it hard, and I use 9s on my electric. Acoustic and electric feel different. Also, I would guess acoustic strings sound richer than electric strings....

I agree.

Our language is limited. We can't actually explain how we feel. Like we can't explain what different colors look like. If something is blue, it is blue. Our language can't explain what blue...

The first chord just sounds wrong. Are you sure the note on the B string isn't the 3rd fret? If it is, John Sykes uses that chord and the D chord a lot on the 1987 Whitesnake album and also Em9 chord...

Yes, all the 7 modes are the same notes. But I don't think minor as major starting on the 6th note. Because that's not really what it is. It is more than that. It doesn't sound anything like major....

How is the minor scale the most versatile? And I wouldn't start learning exotic scales now (unless you are really into Indian music). I would first learn to use the basic scales. You can do lots of...

I would say learn new songs. I would learn stuff in context. Technical exercises may be boring. But if you can practice the same technique by playing good songs, it is a lot more fun.

Also, don't...

Yeah. It's not that good gear makes you play better. Bad gear just makes you play worse. But a good guitarist playing a bad guitar and amp will still sound really good.

It's the wrong word to describe what people meant. I think what cdgraves meant was that there's more to music than just pitches. If you play the right pitches and do nothing with dynamics and that...

It's in C major using C-F-C-Am progression in the verse and Am-C in the chorus. The bassline uses a b7 accidental (Bb) in the verse (in the end of the progression).

I don't think you can really understand keys without scales.

But I agree that it is pretty pointless to learn all the exotic scales. Learning 1000 scales isn't going to make you a better musician....

Why just jazz songs?

Pink Floyd - Money is one of the most popular 7/4 songs. Though I don't see why a jazz band couldn't play that song too.

Why the intro sounds so dissonant is because the bass and guitar play notes that don't really sound "good" together. I wouldn't put the intro in any key. I would say the verse is i-ii-iv-V in F#m.

If you can't find a bassist, some of the guitarists could take the bassist's role. Remember that a guitar octave...
