Amazing how you can hate basswood so much just by thinking that it's always the same species of basswood that appears in cheap guitars. I have basswood in my Ibanez Universe and absolutely love it....

Laney VH100R's cleans are good. They sound more American than British. The high-gains are british though, with not so pronounced mid bark (depends on your speakers ofc).

Virtuoso stuff gets recommended a lot.. I use just Meguiar's if I can't get it off with a micro-fiber cloth. Also use the Dunlop Carnauba wax.. only like twice a year per guitar though.

I hate to be the one to say it, but... I do not think that upgrading from TUSQ to Bone would make too much of a difference. Maybe for aesthetics, as you say, but I don't think TUSQ stuff looks bad....
