Not sure how they are with split coils but in my opinion they are better than the JB/59 combo. (which I had previously)

i switched out the stock pick ups on my LP custom for emg 81/85 (running at 18v) and i really liked them.
but then i decided to switch to a JB/'59 combo for something less high gain - more "natural"...

years ago the guitar teacher i had taught me to do the standard 1-2-3-4 exercise but not to move your finger off the string until you were playing that fret on the next string.

same as thicker strings = better tone.

the 2000 is an awesome amp! well, the dsl is.. to be honest i haven't played the tsl..

to answer the question - in my opinion the jcm 800 is a fantastic amp for any kind of music because it's so simple and takes pedals so well....
