Yes, even as a hobbyist. Unless you want you want to make your life much much harder and your music sound worse, pick up a pair of monitors. You can easily find a decent pair for fairly cheap.

You just need a 1/4" TRS cable to go from the Main Out on your interface to the speaker. 1/4" TRS male on both ends. You need two of them, one for left and one for right.
