The new ones are just so fizzy and lifeless when you play them. In a recording they do alright, but they don't hold true to the old JCMs.

Yeah I boost my Crate GX130 (VH140 clone) and it sounds pretty decent. I'd run the gain a bit lower on the amp and boost it with the Bad Monkey, bet it tightens it right up.
