If you're playing through a 15 watt spider, the POD won't do much for you. A new guitar probably won't sound any different either. Find a nicer amp. You shouldn't have much trouble for 200 pounds....

Turn the metronome off. I've been playing 20 years and I've never used one. Pushing yourself like that and trying to use the metronome for a measure of how you are doing is a bad idea in my opinion....

I have Hercules and Fretrests. The Hercules are nice because they "grab" the guitar, but the fretrest is ok, too. Make sure you find studs in the wall if you can (obviously).

You can put the same pickups on 2 identical guitars and they still might not sound exactly the same. Unless you are playing them through a Line 6. Those amps don't care what you plug into them.
