It's usually pretty easy to tell if a song is 3/4 or 4/4...just count along with the hi-hat or whatever's keeping time, "1 2 3 1 2 3" or "1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4," one will just feel right.

It tries to explain why certain things sound "good," but doesn't do very well at that. IMO it's useful for figuring out chord names and not much else.
