I use V30s with my JCA50 and it sounds awesome. Cuts like a knife. I don't find V30s to be as harsh as others though.

Yeah, I get the same feeling. The JCA50 is literally a beast, and it costs next-to-nothing. Crunch channel with an OD is a great rhythm tone, and the OD channel is awesome for solos or heavier...

Have you tried a TS9? If you want a tighter sound that cuts well, then that, or it's cheaper variants are the answer. I use a Digitech Bad Monkey. Super cheap and really good.
