For the tone in that video, Peavey is what I would think comes closest. If not the 6505, then maaaybe the XXX. But the 6505, (as almost everyone else suggested), would probably nail that.

Pedals are definitely the way to go, unless you can shell out enough cash for a multi-effects, like a Fractal. In the end, you're better off with pedals.

For metal it depends a lot on what specific...

ESPs, Ibanez. Anything in that price-range would be good. If it didn't come with active pups you could budget to buy them separately.

That's a good point.

If it's the compressor it would probably be that the threshold's too low and/or sustain/release too long.

I took a peak at that NUX hg-6 pedal you've got. If you've got the "scoop" up too high that would greatly reduce the volume.

I think small tube amps are great. If it's just for the bedroom, even a 1 watt would be plenty loud. There are some high-gain ones, such the Orange Tini-Terror (I've never used that one myself)....

It might be because of the DOD. Not all ODs/Dists work well as volume boosters. Also, distortion all the way up?! I'm not too familiar with the DS-1, but that's probably overkill.
