The first chord just sounds wrong. Are you sure the note on the B string isn't the 3rd fret? If it is, John Sykes uses that chord and the D chord a lot on the 1987 Whitesnake album and also Em9 chord...

Yes, all the 7 modes are the same notes. But I don't think minor as major starting on the 6th note. Because that's not really what it is. It is more than that. It doesn't sound anything like major....

How is the minor scale the most versatile? And I wouldn't start learning exotic scales now (unless you are really into Indian music). I would first learn to use the basic scales. You can do lots of...

I would say learn new songs. I would learn stuff in context. Technical exercises may be boring. But if you can practice the same technique by playing good songs, it is a lot more fun.

Also, don't...

Yeah. It's not that good gear makes you play better. Bad gear just makes you play worse. But a good guitarist playing a bad guitar and amp will still sound really good.

It's the wrong word to describe what people meant. I think what cdgraves meant was that there's more to music than just pitches. If you play the right pitches and do nothing with dynamics and that...

It's in C major using C-F-C-Am progression in the verse and Am-C in the chorus. The bassline uses a b7 accidental (Bb) in the verse (in the end of the progression).

I would say learn songs first and then start learning theory and technique more in depth. First you want to learn to play music. Theory makes no sense before you can play any of the stuff you read...

^ I don't think boring playing comes from staying in one box shape. But many boring players only stay in one box shape. But certain stuff just can't be played in just one box shape.

The part with those chords sounds like G#m to me (VI-VII-i). The "sus4" notes in the chords are just added notes. The guitar plays the open B string in every chord so I would just say it's a pedal...

I don't think you can really understand keys without scales.

But I agree that it is pretty pointless to learn all the exotic scales. Learning 1000 scales isn't going to make you a better musician....

Why the intro sounds so dissonant is because the bass and guitar play notes that don't really sound "good" together. I wouldn't put the intro in any key. I would say the verse is i-ii-iv-V in F#m.

Can you tab out the chords? The voicing you use has a lot to do with how it sounds like. And by hearing the sound we can tell what it's called.
