To me, it actually sounds like you have a bit too much gain in the mix. Possibly try lowering the mids a touch as well. It might help :shrug:

My original idea was just to use a drill into a press-type jig, but with extra clearance for bigger pieces of wood and stuff. Think, scroll saw, but with a sanding barrel instead..
