My favorite cheap guitars are Hamers! (The non-USA ones, obviously). Love the feel mostly. The tone is pretty hard to beat for the price too and I'm a huge fan of the look and maple tops.

Maybe find a Carvin with a neck around the specs of the Schecter you have? I'd go with a used one too if you don't care too much about customization. You could save around 50% than if you ordered it...

The only other thing I can think of is if the nuts slots are big enough (probably are). But if they aren't, you may need to get some files to widen the slots and fit the thicker strings.

Haven't played the SGJ, but a Gibson SG Faded has a good tone and feel (especially with the satin neck). Plus, you can get them for cheaper than $500.
