The mustang amps are actually pretty good as far as modelling amps go in the "taking pedals" department, but as mentioned, you have to use the really clean models.

I'll just recommend a Peavey 6505+ combo because it seems to be a go to recommendation for hi-gain guitar sounds in these parts.

So my amp just turned off of its own accord

The amp in question is an Egnater Tweaker 40. I was playing and all of a sudden it sounded like someone pulled the power cable out. Now it won't turn back on.

The guitarist from Japandroids uses Black Sovtek Big Muffs (they've been rehoused recently) if that means anything. Big Muffs are nice.
