I had the same problem with one of my squier...

I had the same problem with one of my squier after replacing the pickups, I think that a piece of wire fell into it, had to replace the switch, those asian closed switches are not really meant to be...

maybe that's because the neck on the epi is wider, so you don't keep your fingers as perpendicular to the fretboard as you use to do on a strat
