The wider neck isn't hard to adapt to. I mean, I thought that too as a 6-string guitar player, but I am very used to my 7-string now....

Virtuoso stuff gets recommended a lot.. I use just Meguiar's if I can't get it off with a micro-fiber cloth. Also use the Dunlop Carnauba wax.. only like twice a year per guitar though.

I hate to be the one to say it, but... I do not think that upgrading from TUSQ to Bone would make too much of a difference. Maybe for aesthetics, as you say, but I don't think TUSQ stuff looks bad....
