sanding necessary for fretboard staining?

I plan on ebonizing the fretboard on my Ibanez VBT700, light rosewood + white guitar = got to go. I'm going to clean it off first with naphtha like Stewmac suggests, but should I worry about sanding...

I put D-Activator 7's in my S7320 and they sound killer. I suppose the 8-string ones will do just as great in that.

speaker swap should probably be your first choice. peavey's stock speakers are pretty weak, swapped out the speaker in my valveking 112 for an Eminence Man O War and heard major improvement.

always been really into D standard/Drop C, but we decided on E standard/Drop D in my new band with the occasional use of 7 strings. best of both worlds, old-school and modern.
