I mean squeal as in:

1. I fret the string.
2. I pick the string.
3. The note lasts for about half a second, followed by a short squealing sound, and then the note dies out.

It's probably not a problem with the setup, but...

It's probably not a problem with the setup, but rather with the parts of the guitar. Check the contact points (tuning head, nut, bridge saddle) for sharp edges.

Personally for shred (alternate picking, sweeping, etc.) I like the Jazz III XLs. The Ibanez Paul Gilbert ones are pretty good too but they wear out fast.

if not, i advise you slow down really slow and ensure you're hitting each note with perfect timing before speeding up.

playing through headphones doesn't have the same "feel" as playing out loud through your amp. you should probably turn on your amp, just slightly louder than the volume of the guitar playing...
