Right, the reason we won't see F A C D# resolve to A is because it doesn't. That'll rarely if ever happen.

I'm not talking about exceptions to the resolution, they all tend to resolve the same way....

No need, to involve Piston, I totally agree. Here's where we're confusing each other I think:

If we are in the key of A, then yes, D# and F are the +6, and they want to go to scale degree 5....

It's Bb D F G#.

I'm in total agreement.

I didn't mean the Ger+6 was literally a secondary dominant; only that the principles of application are similar if not the same.

Where are you at school?

Also JRF has a...

Trying to think of a good specific example form the literature.

I don't remember who did it but I recently saw a Fr+6/VI. I think like this: (key of C)

+1 to 4th.

Most people can differentiate between 25-30 cents, so a third of a note.

Most musical ears that we would consider well trained can pick up 5-8 cents.

Just an interesting aside is all....

Max Martin is very, very, very good at what he does.

The songs are not crappy by any means. As far as pop goes, they are impeccably well crafted tunes. Judge the music on the merits of its own genre.
