Venturas were one of the better made...

Venturas were one of the better made "copy" guitars of the 70s.
But that being said, you should know what to look for in vintage Japanese guitars.

Well I looked it over... I'll damned if I can find the issue. The hum drops some when I touch the output jack, completely when I touch the strings and jack.

Could a pot going bad be the culprit?

Yep. Damp cloth with some mild dish soap works. For the grunge at the frets, you can scrape that out with an old credit card. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

That being said, I just sold my Epi 339 Pro. Stayed in tune just fine.

Fret wear is normal.... OVER TIME. If youre putting that kind of wear in the frets since march, you have a seriously heavy hand. Work on lightening it up or you will be paying for Level and Crowns...
