As far as the bpm's it sounds to be about 70. With the chord, you could try just playing the 8's without the 6th fret. You'd still have all the notes that form the Eb chord.

And maybe it's just me, but it looked like Matt's picking hand was actually very tense at full speed. The metronome is your friend, but tendinitis caused by tenseness in your hands is not.
