WotM April - Jiminizzle

Real Name: Jimmy B.
Age: 17 (Birthday june 20)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA, U.S.A.

Favourite Artists: to name a few… Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, The Band, Blink, Bob Dylan, Broken Social Scene, Cold War Kids, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews, Dinosaur Jr., Dispatch, Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, Miles Davis, Minus the Bear, Modest Mouse, Muse, The National, Neil Young, Pavement, Phish, the postal service, Radiohead, RHCP, Ryan Adams, Sigur Ros, The Strokes, Sufjan Stevens, Tokyo Police Club, Wu-Tang
I think there used to be a recommend an artist thing. I’d recommend giving The National a listen if you haven’t before. I think a lot of you would like the lyrics and music.

Most Inspirational Writer (Lyrically): Sam Beam
Favourite poet/poem (published writer):
http://www.bartleby.com/142/180.html
If you could be any writer ever, who would you be: Kerouac
Why Do You Write: because I like to
Favourite word(s): fire escape, stars, fireflies, streetlights
Favourite technique/style to write in: Free verse is what I feel most comfortable in. Guess it’s time to try some new stuff…

Favourite Writer(s) on UG: Less than that, stellar legs, ngd1313, silence evolves, something vague, circular.parade, we have sound, the hurt within, cubs, spike8kb, punchupatigger, carmel, phantom1, rushmore, culex-knight, Jammydude, #1Synth, freshtunes, pixiesfanyo

Most Helpful Critic: Dan, Corey, Katherine, Darcy. Sean is probably my favorite to read his perspectives.

What do you do especially, to find inspiration: Stay up late, go to empty (except for wind) places at night, drive in the countryside, look at cities from far away, play music… it can come at any time really, though.

Your Most Recent Work and Reason Behind It: called liar.
I’ve found myself scared that I’m missing out on what could have been this great romance (haha) that I’m dreaming up. The other day I was driving in the warm heavy air after it rained and through the open windows I listened to the whispery drone of the tires on wet asphalt and I started thinking about what was passing by and what I will think of it in the future. Etc. etc.

Tips for Newer Writers:
Don’t be afraid to ditch something that sounds forced.
Don’t be afraid to search for purpose in places that seem unnatural. There’s a certain type of discomfort that is entirely enthralling. It can be a glorious feeling when you find yourself somewhere new and unfamiliar and alive if it’s the right place and time. This may be extremely general and irrelevant but hopefully you see what I’m trying to say. I know I’m young and have a lot to learn myself, but I guess that’s the point.

What’s your goal in writing: To connect to something that exists outside of myself. And to make people feel things that there aren't single words for. It’s to try to communicate ideas and emotions I guess.

Final Comments or Thoughts: I think Keeno's a good guy...
but seriously, thank you guys. It means a lot. I’m glad to have stumbled into this place. Reading you’re guys stuff has affected me a lot over the last few years. Posting in the last few months has been helpful in writing and in other things as well.

Congrats Sir!

lol. I don't enjoy a single band you listed, save for RHCP (which everyone likes... seriously. If anyone says they don't like RHCP, they're lying).

Oh wells.

I like your tips for inspiration.

Well mostly the stay up late one, cos I use that method as well. Started by accident.

I wish Kerouac wasn't the writer you wish you could be.

I voted for you, so CONGRATULATIONS.

Congratulations man. Although I voted the other way, you definitely deserved it as well. Your writing inspires me, and I really liked your tips for newer writers.

Haha I just think he'd have a cool lifestyle. I don't know really.

It seems that way sometimes haha. I guess our tastes are different. I don't like anything you've mentioned in the community thread. Metal and Shred stuff isn't my deal but I respect many artists of the genre. It just doesn't hit any notes with me save for a few choice moments. I'm more the alternative/indie/folk/rock/underground hip-hop kinda guy haha.

Thanks guys.

you'd better start drinking now. it takes a seriously dedicated alcoholic to die of cirrhosis before 50.

anyway, love your band list, gotta love hipster white guys that dig wu-tang. love your writing, well-deserved and all that jazz.
