Need some help lol.
Ok guy's I have about $100-$200 to spend, I will start playing live in june an need to start rounding up the stuff I will need. Now I am not sure if I will be using a PA system or micing my amp but will know later on.
What should I look at to start getting a live set up? Here are some of the thing's I have been looking at. 1. NS2 pedal 2. Boss chromatic tuner pedal( the nice white one) 3. SM57 mic So far this is all I have came up with but I feel something thing's are missing. I also want to get the CL/LF pickup set for my 7 string as well but not right now. Can you guy's help me get a nice live rig together? Also mind you I will be buying alot of this over a span of time so only please reccomend me something with what I have at the moment, but feel free to reccomend higher priced stuff I can save for so I know ahead of time.

this will depends upon what you want to achieve.
i have played gigs with nothing more than a guitar into an amp. if you wanna do PA stuff then the SM57 will be it (you may also want a mic stand and cable if you wanna provide yourself with everything). many places that have PA's will generally be able to supply the mic, stand and cable though. if this minimalist setup appeals to you then the amp and guitar are going to be key. a shecter and 6505 look like it'll do ya. if you want more, then that is up to you.

If you're using your 6505+, you NEED some kind of boost to tighten things up! Any form
Of tubescreamer/clone will do the trick! The NS2 would be a smart move, as well as a tuner.

seeing as TS uses a 7 string, this is most likely good advice. the boost or OD should help brighten things up a bit too, help that 7 string get heard.

I want to get the Ibanez TS9 but I dont want a clone I like having originals. My 7 string don't sound to bad but I think the pickup swap will help it sound better as with the tubescreamer. For as long as I can remember I always wanted the Boss NS2 and chromatic tuner pedal, so those will be a must. As for the SM57 I have heard it's a great mic for the heavier stuff an if I dont use it live I would still like to have it for home recording and etc. But I still feel like there is more that im missing for a live gig, or maybe i'm not lol.

Instead of the Boss Chromatic Tuner look at the Korg Pitchblack Pedal Tuner. I like it more than the Boss. The display is far easier to read in my eyes, and you can choose what way it displays i.e. how it shows the sharp/flat display, whether it displays in #'s or b's. So that's just me, just something to consider. I've heard a lot of people say they'd tak the Pitchblack over the Bos simply because of the design and functionality.

Bit of threadjacking here, but you got me curious. Would you recommend replacing my pitchblack with a clip on tuner? It would free up some space on my pedal board.

I use the Snark tuners as well...and I think I've given away a half-dozen or so to friends. I don't know what getting old feels like. I used to know, but I got old and forgot... ![]()

i used to give my mom shit for calling my fav cartoon mutant ninja teenage turtles. 'No MOM it's the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... GOD!'
sorry mom. i am also hardly angry anymore, i've lost almost all my self righteous indignation... i am getting old i guess. a least i don't have bifocals and i am not wearing diapers [much]. Quote:
the beautiful thing about clip on tuners is that they are cheap. get a snark for 15/20 bucks and see if you like it, it might replace you floor tuner. i like clip on tuners for a few reasons. -i can share it really easy if someone doesn't have their own tuner -all i have to do is roll down my volume knob and i have silent tuning -they don't take up board space mind you, i have broken a couple and sometimes it is hard to find the batteries at stores. also, if you play acoustic live then the sound hole sometimes resonates with the band too much and it is harder to tune when the band is playing (i have not had that problem with electric at all). i actually have like 3 or 4 snarks, i usually bring two to a gig just in case someone else needs one or the batter dies. i prefer them, but they aren't for everyone.

I hate snarks. they break, so much. just normal use. I've had three break, two blue and one red one. I've switched to the planet waves ones now, the ones that go behind the headstock. haven't broken one yet.
TS, you need an Ibanez TS9 and a noise gate of some sort, whatever floats your boat. if you wanna record get the SM57. |
