Crap amp, crap mic, crap technique, crap production. There's your problem.
But how do we fix it? For starters I'd do the electric guitars direct into the UX1 using amp sim software. Either Pod Farm that came with it, or the free version of Amplitube 3*. I don't know whether your Crate is one of their nicer amps or not, but neither of those mics is particularly good for miking cabs anyway. The acoustic just needs to be a little brighter. It sounds like you're miking everything at a distance, so close in. Start with the 991 about 10 inches from the 12th fret, pointed slightly in toward the soundhole. If it sounds too thin, aim it more towards the body of the guitar. Too bassy, aim it towards the neck. * Yes, yes, I know LePou etc are better but I'm trying to keep things simple! |
