I've been on a Duane Allman kick tonight.
Duane with Delaney and Bonnie: Duane with Aretha:

^ I love that version of "Come On In My Kitchen"
To keep with the Duane Allman thing. I found this video where a guy films the whole walk through Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon right to Duane and Berry's grave-site. It really doesn't take long to get there, the last two times that I was there it went quick because I knew where I was going. This past April though, we found everything; Elizabeth Jones Reed Napier, Little Martha Ellis, and the Bond Monument where they all used to hang out by the tracks off in the corner of the cemetery. Its where this picture was taken: After being there three times and spending more than a week of my life in Macon by this point, I feel like I really know my way around that town now. I've been to the old Capricorn studio site, and where the Capricorn office is right by the H&H Restaurant (where I've eaten a number of times now), Central City Park (where they would play for free), Grant's Lounge (where they would hang out), and of course The Big House. I'm telling you Kyle, it isn't too far of a drive from wherever you are in Tennessee. You could do this shit in a weekend. Liz Reed Little Martha

Man, that's awesome. Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to get down there. It's about a 5 hour drive, so a weekend trip would be preferable.

I'm just sitting here right now figuring out "Come On In My Kitchen" by ear. The A, D7, and E chords are easy enough to hear, but it sounds like there's some variation of an F#minor that get snuck in there (F#minor7 or some shit?) and I can't quite wrap my ears/fingers around it at the moment.
And yes, I have a slide on my pinky while I'm workin' this shit.

I just caught the post about Come on in my Kitchen. I need to sit down with that one.
And Scrapomatic is a deep cut. I saw them open up for TTB. Such a cool band.

Been listening to this for days..
I'm going to buy the LP just for the title track alone. Wes Montgomery - Down here on the Ground An Eric Johnson's Austin City Limits cover of the same tune Last edited by StratPlayer15 : 06-19-2012 at 06:11 PM. |

Listening to the Allman Bros. today. Came looking for the Delaney and Bonnie link. One of the guys I be jammimg with tonight was riding with me the first time we heard "Tie me to he whipping post". The car had an AM radio and it started to fade. I slammed on the brakes and hit reverse to backup to a stronger signal. But might be fun to play "come on in to my kitchen" , in rememberance .

^ At the Riverside, right? September of '11? I was there. You missed a good one buddy.
I love how they capture the great family band vibe of the late 60's and early 70's. I've seen them cover "Comin' Home" (Wanee '11), Joe Cocker's "Space Captain" (Wanee '11), and a couple of Sly and the Family Stone songs; "I Want To Take You Higher", "You Can Make It If You Try", and "Sing A Simple Song" from both Wanee and The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee ( both shows were in '11). I suppose this would be a pertinent opportunity to mention that their original material is pretty fuckin' good too. Because it is.

They're incredible live, and I love the original material. I saw them last year, and it was seriously one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Yep, and I heard it was a good one. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for not going. I did learn and went to see Bonamassa. |
