hi, Im looking to learn some neoclassical shred type music, and I was wondering if there are any good tab books with exercises and some songs using said exercises. I ran into some promo videos to a really good tab book by Kelly Simonz on youtube. in these videos he played some of the exercises and songs that were in the book(search "Kelly Simonz ex") and the book came with a CD that had backing tracks to all the exercises in the book. Problem is that this book is in japanese and costs an arm and a leg to import it to USA(costs me around $20 + $30 shipping).

so Id like to know if there are any books similar to this easily available in USA that youd recommend. A backing tracks CD would also be great option.

if there arent any decent tab books like this, then can you recommend any lessons, videos, songs, or tuition websites where I can learn phrases and exercises to create complex neoclassical style tunes?

Yeah, X-Japan! During the J-Metal phase in my life, I've noticed a huge increase in skill with my guitar playing both technically and melodically.
Just note above are some westerners who inspired many of the Japanese metal guitarist and their style.

its just my preferable way of learning phrases. i also find learning with tabs more enjoyable than boring myself to death trying to figure out sounds by ear.

as far as Im concerned, I dont listen to boring music. to each their own tastes though

I figure out songs by ear every now and then, but I never enjoy doing it. the bands I listen to have too complex phrasing for me to figure out as fast as Id like to, I always end up frustrated and go back into a routine of playing the same old songs. That's part of the reason Im looking for a good neoclassical leads tab book since the bands i listen to have heavy neoclassical elements. Id also like to have a good catalog of phrases for my writing. a tab book happens to be the easiest way to learn these things.

a better option would be to use a software like gutiar pro. you can see the tabs, notation and also hear it in audio form, slow it down etc. Plus i love neoclassical metal too. lots of arpeggios and pedal tone licks will make you sound like a typical neoclassical guitarist.
