I've been away from this forum for a while. Is there any notable metal albums that have come out in 2013 that I should take note of (I'm pretty flexible genre-wise)? Nail's new album is the only real metal album that I've listened to.

USBM that is every bit as good as its European brothers without being a clone?

Death metal with excellent composition and some sense of structure i.e. something that doesn't sound so linear and directionless? Nothing obvious please.

USBM that's good or as good as it's Euro counterparts is limited but:
Obsequiae - Suspended in the Brume of Eos
Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelations, Et in Saecula Saeculorum
Caladan Brood - Echoes of Battle
Mare Cognitum - An Extraconscious Lucidity, The Sea Which Has Become Known
Falls of Rauros - The Light that Dwells in Rotten Wood
Arizmenda - Within the Vacuum of Infinity
Nightbringer - Hierophany of an Open Grave
Alda - Tahoma
Skagos - Ast, Anarchic
Barrowlands - Demo 2012 [all they have, but quite good]
Averse Sefira, Demoncy and Weakling may all get mentions too but I'm hardly an authority on them.
And I guess the obvious Absu. That's literally all I can mention though.

Death metal with good songwriting...
Tribulation - The Formulas of Death
Aeternus - ...and so the Night Became
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours [obvious rec is obvious]
The Chasm - Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm, Procession to the Infraworld, The Spell of Retribution, Deathcult for Eternity, etc [everything really]
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Desolate Shrine - The Sanctum of Human Darkness, Tenebrous Towers
Horrendous - The Chills

And yeah, The Chasm.
Sentenced - North From Here

^ Thanks. I know about 3/4 of 'em but that's still plenty to check out. The Chasm kinda slipped my mind, great band. I need to explore their entire discography. Absu are killer as well.

EDIT: Horrendous are pretty cool. Guess they went under the radar for me.

Supuration - CU3E
Cult of Luna - Vertikal
Magic Circle - Magic Circle
Vorum - Poisoned Void
Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity
Hesperian Death Horse - Mrtav
Shinin' Shade - Sat-Urn
Ice Dragon - The Soul's Midnight
Centurian - Contra Rationem

I second the Tribulation rec as well.

I'm going to see Rush in a month but I'm only familiar with their older material. How does their other stuff compare? Are there any shit Rush albums to avoid or a massive drop in quality?

Actually, Midnight and Cross Stitched Eyes might be up your alley as well, JMad.

I think Graveyard (spain) were something similar, from memory, adding to the rest of the recommendations

^ Thanks. I've heard of both (like one or two songs each) but never gave them a proper listen for whatever reason.

Lookin for bands that have came out in the past five years or so.Not insulting anyone's musical tastes, but none of that pussy ass shit with whiny sounding screams. But I don't really like insanely deep screams or growling that make me feel like Satan is being summoned to butt-**** my soul.
Bands similar to All That Remains, Bullet for My Valentine?? I also really love me some Mudvayne. I gave Asking Alexandria a chance, but decided I would rather roll around in broken glass with Magic Johnson than hear that shit again.
Thanks!!

Folks here generally deal in heavier stuff than what you're looking for but give In Flames a go

The bands you listed are more Hard rock and watered down pop-influenced metal (trying to be as non-insulting as possible but it's true.)

So I guess try mid 2000's "Metalcore" (cuz it's not really metalcore but that's what everyone calls it anyway)

As I Lay Dying
Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage

That kinda thing.
