I live in a quiet little suburban neighborhood in San Jose California


relatively quiet neighborhood, nothing bad ever really happens

in February of 2006. My home was invaded, and robbed by a man and a woman, both African American.

My sister, a senior in highschool at the time, only had a few classes that day, and she arrived home, rather early in the day. She opened the front door, to find the house a mess, and immediately turned around, and opened her cell phone. where she was confronted by an African American Male, who then told her to get in the house, and lay down on the floor, and she wouldn't be harmed. She was forced to lay on the floor, while our house was ransacked.

I came home that day, to find my father, and his parents, on my driveway. This was strange, as my father usually gets from from work around 4pm. The first thing he says to me, is that we had been robbed. I'm immediately in shock, and questioned the safety of my sister.

I then entered the house. I have never felt such emotions, rage, anger, frustration, and sadness. as I turned the corner in the hallway, and peered into my room, door flung open. Drawers pulled out. Clothes strewn about, everything a mess. I dropped to my knees in a crumpled, shaking heap of a teenager distraught by such wrongdoing.

To this day, I still don't feel totally safe, when I'm home alone, or when I return home, to find the house empty. Strange cars scare the **** out of me, and noises in the night can sometimes lead to my not sleeping. We still have the door that they kicked in to gain entrance to our house, it lay against the side of the house, a broken reminder of such terrible doings, broken, not unlike the family that was the shaken up by the events of that fateful day.

"San Jose Police Detective Kevin Sebree reports that on 2/6/2006 at 11:30am, a home invasion robbery occurred in the 300 block of Martinvale Lane. Two suspects entered the unoccupied residence and removed items. While stealing the items from the residence to their vehicle, the victim returned
home, interrupting the burglary. Once the victim realized that she was being burglarized, she walked out of her house to call police, but was confronted by the suspects. The suspects grabbed the victim and took her back into the house, made her lay face down and continued to steal her belongings. Suspect #1 is a Black male, 25-35 years old, 6ft in height, stocky build. Suspect #2 is a Black female, 25-35 years old, 5-8 in height, thin build. Please contact the Fugitive Watch Hotline or send a confidential email if you know the name of this suspect."



I needed to get that out, i've never full typed it up like that, only usually giving out a sentence or 2, "my house was robbed" "sister held hostage"

That really does suck though man...when my mom was really young, she got attacked right outside of her house when everyone was home. AGAIN while she was in her car, and then a pervert apartment building owner would pick in her apartment at night.

All, she said, messed her up at those locations. Still, you'll get over it. People are cruel, but honestly...you should be happy.

They could have just blown your sister away. Most people do, since most don't care. They were theives. Honestly, we need more of them around...

Seems like everyday you turn on the tv and here so and so got shoot while being robbed. I don't get what happened to just stealing stuff...why do you have to kill people?

Either way, that's a messed up thing that happened to you and your family. Don't let it ruin your home though, try to let it go and don't live in fear all the time. Because, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen whether you're afriad or not.

Damn man, which part of SJ are you in? I live borderline Cupertino and I never heard of these kinda things in this area.

EDIT: That really blows man. I hope your family recovered well. I've never been robbed so I don't know what to say, but I hope karma gets that guy in the nuts.

my condolences. i hate hearing about stuff like this happening, and i'm glad to hear that your sister was physically unharmed. i really hope the burglars are caught, though even that won't make up for your loss. i hope things go great for you and your family in the future. best of luck!

Ken, I can only imagine how this must have devastated you and your family. Obviously it took months before you could talk about it openly like this. This is an important step in the healing process. Bad things happen in all sorts of places, by all sorts of people. But mostly the world is filled with good. It will take a while, but you'll learn to feel that love again.

I'll have good thoughts for you and your family, as I'm sure all of UG will.

Am I the only one who isn't shocked at all by the fact the robbers were black? Sorry, but its just kind of proof why stereotypes exist. Sorry about the robbery though, hopefully they will foul up next time they do something and get hauled to prison for a few years.

I ****ing hate robberies. To steal from another person is a horrible thing to do. I'm sorry about what happened to you and your family. Just hearing about people being robbed makes me pissed off. If someone came into my house at night, i would either shoot them in the eyes with my gas bb gun, or swing my p bass and knock them out.
