If a song is played with a capo on the first fret, and is played in G(with the fret o

If a song is played with a capo on the first fret, and is played in G(with the fret on) would the song be in the key of G#? or would it be in G

If the song is in G without a capo on, and then you put the capo on and transpose everything up one fret, then yes, it's in G# now.

If you're playing a G, with or without a capo, its still a G. However, if you're playing the 3rd fret, which would be a G, and then you toss on a capo, you now need to play the 4th fret, which is the G#.

Ok good, thats what i was thinking. i was looking up a song, and every site i went to said the song was in the key of G, and was played with a capo, but when i listened to the song, u could tell it wasnt a G but rather a G# they were playing.

Yeah, usually when there's a capo involved, just put the capo on and imagine the capo position is fret 0. Read everything as you would with no capo.

its as if you had an extra finger down there, it doesnt change a thing, if you put your first finger on the 3rd fret, and third finger on the 5th fret, the 5th fret is still A regardless of if youre 3rd finger's on

however, treat everything as if the capo is the open string on the tab, so yes G#
