I would avoid the plywood strikers, if you want a cheap 80s Kramer get a Focus, but the "American" Kramers can be found cheap as hell if you have patience.

The late 80s (86-90) American Series (Stagemaster, ProAxe & Showster) Kramers were the most innovative guitar designs which later were copied by nearly all of the manufacturers of FR equipped guitars. The early 80s Kramers were more traditional design with basic Strat-like bodies. You can find great deals on 80s Kramers on ebay and CL.

If it had a Floyd Rose, it would definitely be worth $250, but I wouldn't pay $250 for a stop tail.

After 10+ years of owning my Kramer FR422, it is still one of my favorite guitars, very versatile, great neck, and excellent pups. My 422 and my MIM are the two guitars, I enjoy playing the most.

Here's a nice close up of the broken headstock, the repair job done by Music Man and the extra tuner added so Ed could use it in the mean time. You can also see the remains of the Music Man sticker that was put over the Kramer logo when Ed signed with them back in the early 90's.


This is a sad picture. In 2004 Ed used this guitar on their tour a few times and added a Charvel neck with a striped fingerboard not only that but to make the neck fit on the body they had to resize/make the neck pocket bigger thus changing the body forever that the original neck will no longer fit. Ahh drunken Ed and his dumb ideas

The price is partially what attracted me to It. I'm a huge EVH fan. I'll probably replace the harware and order a Dimarzio Crunch Lab to put In It instead of the included chinese generibucker.
