I deal with A/V equipment all day, every day. Anyone who prefers DVD over Bluray is, categorically, a mong.

Better picture detail, vastly better sound. If something sounds and looks better, you'll become more involved in the film.

Even with a gigabit router with NOTHING else on the network, you can't put a high bitrate1080p signal down it, let alone 1080p with HD audio. Cat5 will do it eventually, though. And the equipment to do that will be expensive.
