Unhappy Need help on finding creativity.

Hello and thank you for taking time to help.

I am having a hard time making songs.
I've been playing guitar for 6 years now.
I can play songs already written well but
when it comes to making something my brain
just doesnt have a clue what to do.

What's wrong with me and how can i fix it, is it
even possible to fix what's wrong with me.

I am self taught and never had lessons and I've
played almost every day for long periods of time.

checking out some of the lessons may help but even then it's not always something you can control. it gets better with time, sure, but every guitarist I've ever met goes through some sort of writing or learning slump.

i had a problem with it myself a while back. i was in a metalcore band and after we went our separate ways i stopped writing metal material. when i tried to go back to it, i couldn't do it. i could write other stuff pretty well but metal riffs just didn't really come back to me the way they did before.

one thing that kind of helped me is to check the tabs of songs you really like that you want to write something similar to. look at how they play and what they play and start to work around it. i don't mean rip off other people's material, just use it as a learning tool. other than that, its really all about patience and practice. keep at it dude we've all been there.

I'm self taught and prefer to keep it that way. Looking at the lessons page
would defy that purpose of being self taught.

Don't be ignorant. You can still be self taught and read stuff on the internet, well in my books anyways.

I just dont want to have to rely on online information as I dont have a computer and im not always on my xbox browser. Besides most videos or articles i read never have straight points, just a bunch of info and stories i already know and heard.

If anyone can find any good articles on how to use and mix Modes/chords/scales that would be awesome.

If you aren't going to help yourself by trying to learn new things then you are never going to be able to write songs, just because you look at a lessons page doesn't mean you aren't self taught. There is a page just to learn scales, soloing, etc. that will help you learn to write your own material.

this is false, sorry, but learning new things is not as imoptrant as looking for what inspires you. being self taught is good. it shows that you know wat YOU want. keep it up. but when looking for creativity rhyming and poetry arent oimportand. write from what you feel and see. that is your greatest inspiration.
good luck
