Yeah, I've played the Gibson a few times and I liked it a lot, I've only tried a King V once, which was also extremely nice. It's difficult to find them near me though.

I might really go for this King V.

I personally prefer a Jackson equivalent of the Gibson Studio Faded/50s Tribute or Fender Highway One/American Special line. Stripped-down, no-frills guitars that have a neat, sturdy build and sound just as good.

Here's my spec wishlist for a Soloist-
  • Alder/Mahogany chambered body
  • Through-body maple/mahogany neck
  • Baked maple fretboard
  • String-through, hardtail
  • Plastic Sabretooth/Sharkfin inlays
  • Seymour Duncan Jazz/JB combination
  • One volume, one tone knob
  • 3-way switching
  • Chrome hardware
  • Typical Soloist neck shape
  • Solid colour options
  • 24 Frets
Everything else built to cost, comparable to the Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded. None of the binding, MOP/abalone inlays, maybe no ebony fretboard, no OFR/FRT-O2000/FRS even, no scalloping, no quilted maple top or overly fancy paint jobs. Hopefully this will come for under $900.

Hang on, are those prices in UK Pounds? It would still cost just as much.

Sure, they were on there... But not around anymore, for some reason.

Edit: The prices are there, but my browser was playing up, so I didn't see them.

So it appears that they'll be coming into stock at around December time, at least from what I've seen. I have severe GAS now.

that's a lot

it's worth pointing out that not long ago thomann was selling kv5frs and ke5frs for about 700. Which is not much more than that's going for (under 100 more).

I'm mostly pleased because it's pretty much half the price of the Phil Demmel V, which is one of the only Vs I really like... that Snow White finish is gorgeous.

Unless you guys know of any other similar Vs for less than 700, of course, I'll go for this. I can do you guys a service, at least, and let you know about the quality of these things.

I'd be really tempted by one of these, but I'm gassing for a seven string V at the moment...

not pointy ones, no (well, maybe esp).

there's always gibson, or japanese-made tokais and the like. but they're gibson-style.

Hmm, I like the Gibson Vs well enough, and they're really nice to play, but I have this thing for a white, pointy, EMG, Floyd V and this just ticks all the boxes. Shame that it's such a high price assuming it's Indonesian, or even Korean made.

Cheers though Dave

yeah that's the problem. I mean I'm no gibson fan (MIJ tokais and the like ftw) and I'd be taking a gibson over this jackson (unless it does turn out to be japanese, which i highly doubt) if it's a similar price. without question, kind of thing.

EDIT: and no problem

Looking at the BC rich Flying V with the FR on it... Heard good things about it, mainly from SS.ORG. Don't think anyone here has one (could be wrong though)

My biggest problem with the Pro line as of yet is production, anyone know where they're made yet?

right well i had a quick look over at JCF, and it looks like the bolt-on dinkies will be made in mexico (not too bad, depending on the price) while the neck-thru and set neck pros will be made in indonesia.

That's a bit expensive, considering the pro series was made in Japan...
