Wow, that's actually pretty amazing. I may try something similar on an old bass I have laying around.

EDIT: How is the texture? Most duct tape seems to have a type of thread inside it to give it part of its strength, so was that a problem having string laying out?

I had my doubts about a duct tape guitar but I must admit that painting and sanding on top of the tape really gives the guitar an interesting texture. It is really cool.

It was a nice surprise in the end. It now looks like some RG2xxx Ibanez which were painted in a similar manner

This thread is rather old and it doesn't look like the guy who created it has been around for quite some time.
Given the intended look of this finish I suspect it doesn't really matter what sort of paint you use and I doubt there's polish on it. You could always clearcoat it I suppose.
