I'm currently deciding between a Gibson SG Special and a PRS S2 Mira, both 2014. Does anyone have any experience with the SG Special? Is it normally so bright sounding as opposed to dark, thin tones of most Gibson guitars, or did I just happen to stumble across one that's bright and chimey? Are there other guitars that Gibson guitars that are brighter? The reason I never really liked them is that they're so dark and thick, but the SG Special seems to stand out amongst them in that regard.

That's cool man. I actually gave some girls a ride to Ottawa recently, didn't figure to check you out to party. Oh well next time.

And, I would go for the PRS, or save up for an SG Standard.

were you running it though an amp you're familiar with? sg's can totally be bright and chimey through the right amp in conjunction with some new strings.

not sure about the full specs on the pickups, but they're lower output than pickups on standards and some customs, therefore not smashing the input section of the amp. that's just a guess though.

kinda drunk over here

Yes, I mostly played it through a HRD. I also played various guitars through the HRD as I was looking for my next purchase, and it really stood out because it was so bright. I also played it through a Vox AC30- wasn't quite as bright, but still uncharacteristically so compared to my experience with SGs and Gibsons in general. I could say it might have rivaled my Strat in terms of brightness.

Is your statement a generlisation of SGs, or are there specific models to which you're referring? I'd like to give a few go to really solidify my choice, and I really do like the SG Special- or at least the one that hangs on the wall of my local GC.

I guess this was directed to me, in which case- I didn't like the SG Standard. It didn't play or feel right to me. And yes, the PRS has been sat on the top of the list since I discovered it, even though I've never had the chance to play/hear one in person.

^ Are you talking about the new standards, as of 2013? Because they've been revamped and they're basically the old '61 Reissues. Small pickguard, slim neck, etc.

But yea, definetly go with whatever feels best.

Yes. Is there a substantial difference between pre and post-2013? I might give it a chance.
