I consider what I could afford to be cheap. Hopefully getting my hands on a nice Portaflex stack this year.

Sorry, gentlemen, but work has been kicking my ass lately. I've been dropping in to view threads occasionally, but to tired to write anything vaguely useful or enlightening.

I've been busy dealing with angry customers all week due to the ports shutting down.

I've been busy trying to not be homeless.

Ibanez are becoming my favourite brand with their workshop series alone.

I want literally all of these basses and they're all under a grand.

(Whack some passive electronics in all of them, of course.)

The Portamento is, hands down, the second best fretless I have ever played.

Yup. Hated the ramp at the time. Would probably feel differently now.

The portamento only had two flaws in my mind.

1. The extended fingerboard prevents me from slapping.
2. Active electronics? On a fretless? H'bout no.

Other than that, the five string model was perfect. I usually prefer a bolt on neck but it's not even close to a deal breaker.

Is that a 7-string bass? I've never even got as far as using 7 on guitar, let alone bass

Slapping on a fretless just seems... dull. Idk, maybe a few youtube vids will change my mind.

Also, why would the extended fingerboard prevent you from slapping? Looks like you would have plenty of space to pop over the pickup.

EDIT: NOPE, sounds awesome. Still, my second point stands.

Not enough travel time for the slap and not enough space to pop. It just felt very painful.

I'd love a Portamento and/or a 5 string fanned-fret SR.

And a Black Eagle...

BassNW has a BTB7 in stock, I might just have to stop by and try it if I manage to get myself downtown this week.

The BTB7 was the blandest sounding BTB I've ever owned and in fact it was so dull I sold it.

I blame it on the sterile over compressed pickups and preamp.

EDIT:The irony of buying of DR Marcus Miller and Dunlop Super Bright SS strings.

Nah the setup was perfect for a fretless, it just felt like slapping a table.

Too many single use custom jobs get turned into signature models. $3,500, ha.

That could explain why Zon's is having issues filling orders.
