bigger places would have PA systems, or your band would, so you would just shove a mic or two in front of it. it could be gig'd anywhere.

You could look at lower wattage tube amps or modellers.

Blackstar HT-5 will do you fine.

Used LIne6 Flextone. You can pick em up for $100 in the right places, and they sound great.

If you going to go modelling, dont get the POD HD400, either the 300 or the 500 IMO

I use the 300 using some shit creative speakers, and doesnt it sound half bad. If you can possibly extend your budget go for a decent set of monitors too and you'll be set.

Failing that, gumtree always has good deals on used amp - saw a 6505 combo going for about 400 a few months back

Yup, the HT-5 is a great bedroom amp. Nice and easy to get cranked up without annoying everyone. If you have an interface then the emulated output is fantastic to record with.
