Electric guitar guy here, how's a bass amp *stack* up to drums? Get it, STACK?? BECUZAMPSLOL
We'd be playing in a small room, would 10w be enough to be heard against a drummer? Thanks in advance! |

10w 8" speaker I'm guessing? Probably not. Not with the drummers I know.

I thought we'd have to buy a starter package, but it seems my bass guitar player might already have some equipment. So i guess my questions been voided, but thanks for the input

100W min is right. We don't hear bass well as a species and speakers are less efficient at producing bass so you just need more power.
the full gen is here http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/colu...ng_it_loud.html cheers |

I've played with several drummers over the years (and married one who idolizes Keith Moon and Bonzo). 100 W is the bare minimum I'd go with and I'd shoot for a bit more headroom than that if affordable.

The room I play in at church is pretty small. We have a Fender Rumble 75 and it works.. as long as you max the volume on the amp.
I agree with the 100W minimum. |

You can scrape it at 50W, just. 100W will make sure that you can keep up with nearly any drummer in a practice situation.

I remember like 5 years ago on this board when people would recommend nothing lower than 300 watts for the head room.
I still stick by that, if you can get a 300 watt amp you'll pretty much be set for your entire gigging career.

There is no substitute for watts, better to have too many than too few.
With too many you can turn down, with too few you can turn up at the risk of damaging both amp and speaker/s (unless you're hungry and want to boil an egg) 300 watts solid state (less valves/tubes).
