What guitar should I get?

I'm looking for a secondary guitar, so it doesn't need to be a top class guitar.

I want to use it mainly for soloing blues, rock and metal.
This means I mainly want good overdrive and distortion.

So what do you guys think? I'm figuring a Fender Strat would be good, or am I wrong?

Well good OD and Distortion is the responsibility of your amp not the guitar.

Fender is not what I think of when I think metal.

Give us:
location?
budget?
new or used?
current gear?

and we can help you better.

Sweden, I can import however so it doesn't matter (much).
I'm thinking about $600 to $1000.
New.

My gear is:
Whammy DT by Digitech
Pollyanna Octave by MI Audio
Timefactor by Eventide
RC-300 by BOSS

As you can see, not many sound altering pedals. Yet.

My amp is a Super-Sonic Twin by Fender.

I would go for an ES style guitar because they're pretty versatile. For example, you could get an Epiphone Dot.

Fenders can do metal just fine with a humbucker in the bridge. Plus, I can't imagine playing blues on anything else.

Actually, blues is what I'll mainly want it for. Say, like 80% blues and 20% metal. Fender or no Fender, that's the question.

Yes they can, but they are not what I think of first

But TS said mostly blues, so a G&L ASAT Deluxe or G&L Legacy would be fine. I have a G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe and it is a nice guitar.

I'd say an HSS strat maybe. Or HSS superstrat of some description (not necessarily fender).
